Why Tattoo Artists Charge an Hourly Rate: A Look Behind the Ink

As a tattoo artist in Fort Worth, Texas, I’m often asked about the hourly rate I charge. While it may seem like tattooing is all fun and creativity (and it absolutely is rewarding!), there’s so much more to being a self-employed artist. Unlike traditional employees, we don’t receive benefits like health insurance, paid sick days, or vacation time. Every aspect of the business—from designing your custom artwork to managing supplies and maintaining a safe, clean environment—rests on us. So when bad weather or illness hits, it often means no income. The hourly rate reflects not only the time and effort I dedicate to your tattoo but also the behind-the-scenes work that ensures your experience is safe, professional, and memorable.

That said, I wouldn’t trade this career for anything! I’m incredibly grateful to serve the amazing people of Fort Worth, Texas, and create beautiful, custom tattoos that tell your unique stories. Your trust allows me to turn your vision into a lasting piece of art. Being part of this vibrant community is an honor, and I look forward to continuing to craft meaningful tattoos that you’ll love for a lifetime. Thank you for supporting my passion and helping keep the Fort Worth tattoo scene thriving.
