Body Piercing Age Requirements in Texas
Per Texas Health and Safety Code §146.0125, you must be at least 18 years of age to consent to a body piercing independently.
Minors under 18 may be pierced only if a parent, managing conservator, or legal guardian is present and provides written consent specifying the area to be pierced.
The studio must verify identity and relationship using:
• Valid government-issued photo ID for the adult.
• Original birth certificate (or equivalent legal document) for the minor.
• Photo ID for the minor (e.g., school ID or state/federal-issued ID).
Last names must match. If they do not—due to marriage, adoption, or guardianship—additional legal proof (e.g., marriage certificate, adoption decree, or court-ordered guardianship papers) must be presented.
Studio Discretion
Even when all legal requirements are met, the piercer has final authority. Licensed studios and artists may refuse service to anyone—including minors with proper consent—for safety, ethical, or internal policy reasons. Many studios enforce higher minimum ages or restrict certain piercings regardless of consent.
Recommendation: Contact the studio in advance to confirm their policies, required documentation, and any additional restrictions. Legal eligibility does not guarantee service.
Contact the piercer who performed your piercing—they should have given you verbal aftercare instructions during the appointment and a written aftercare sheet. Follow their guidance exactly, as it is tailored to your specific piercing type and location. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to them directly.
Standard Piercing Aftercare (General Guidelines)
• Wash hands thoroughly before touching the piercing.
• Clean twice daily with sterile saline solution (0.9% sodium chloride) or piercer-approved antimicrobial soap diluted with warm water.
• Gently rinse the area for 30–60 seconds, removing crust or discharge with a clean cotton swab if needed.
• Pat dry with a clean paper towel—never use cloth towels.
• Avoid: alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, ointments, swimming pools, hot tubs, tight clothing that rubs the piercing, and sleeping directly on the piercing (use a travel pillow or alternate sides to reduce pressure).
• Do not rotate or over-clean the jewelry.
• Healing times vary: earlobes (6–8 weeks), cartilage (3–12 months), oral/nostril (4–12 weeks).
Expect initial redness, minor swelling, and light discharge.
Follow your piercer’s protocol above all—improper care risks infection or migration.

In the state of Texas, the legal age to get tattooed is 18 and up. There are certain exceptions to the law, which you will need to consult with a lawyer or a judge for more detailed information.
Tattoo Aftercare (Quick Guide)
1. Clean It
Remove the bandage after 3–12 hours.
Wash gently with mild antibacterial soap and warm water, then rinse with cold water.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel and let air-dry for 10 minutes.
2. Moisturize
Apply a thin layer of healing ointment (just enough for a light shine).
Clean and reapply every 6 hours for 3–7 days.
Stop using ointment once the tattoo begins to peel or flake.
3. Peeling Stage
Switch to fragrance-free lotion (like Lubriderm Sensitive Skin).
Apply 2–3 times a day until the skin feels normal.
Don’t scratch, pick, or over-moisturize.
4. Healing Tips
Avoid soaking, swimming, or direct sunlight.
Don’t pick scabs — let them heal naturally.
Keep it clean, lightly moisturized, and let your skin breathe.
How to Care for Your Tattoo After Getting It done
Resume normal water activities once peeling and flaking are completely healed.
Always use SPF 60 or higher sunblock on your tattoo when outdoors or swimming.
Avoid tanning — it can dull and fade your tattoo.
Keep your tattoo clean and avoid tight clothing that may rub or irritate the area.
Keep your skin moisturized and hydrated daily for long-term vibrancy.
Healthy skin keeps your tattoo looking bold and fresh.
Avoid soaking your tattoo — do not submerge it in water, swim, or use saunas until all flaking and peeling are gone (about 2–3 weeks).
Take only short showers and avoid steamy environments until the skin has fully healed.
Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight and away from tanning beds during healing.
Avoid heavy workouts or sweating, especially if the tattoo is in a high-friction or sweat-prone area.
Protect your healing tattoo from dirt, bacteria, and sun exposure — it’s still an open wound during this stage.
• Do not submerge your tattoo in water, swim, or use saunas until all flaking and peeling have finished (typically 2–3 weeks).
• Limit showers to brief ones and steer clear of steamy or humid settings until the skin is completely healed.
• Shield your tattoo from direct sunlight and tanning beds while it heals.
• Refrain from intense exercise or heavy sweating, particularly if the tattoo is in a friction-prone or sweat-heavy area.
• Safeguard your healing tattoo against dirt, bacteria, and sun exposure—it functions as an open wound during this period.
